It started with a handful of family members

In 1945, Crank Waterproofing started with a handful of family members and one ambition: to become a premier decking resource for Southern California.

Decades later, we have delivered on it, and we still work out of the same building on Commercial Way in Costa Mesa. Today that means:

No job too small. And none too elaborate or exotic for our craftsmen.

How we got here

1945: Founded in Costa Mesa

Orma Crank, father and founder, built the business on good old-fashioned family values, honesty and integrity.

1950s: The Quagga Deck

Orma Crank created the “Quagga Deck,” an experiment with fiberglass layers and resins, and the company grew at an unprecedented rate. It marked the start of decking materials, as opposed to the roofing materials used before.

Pioneers in decking

As the system spread through the 1950s, the Quagga Deck became a service all its own, especially along the coast, where decks over the hills and ocean became a common sight for us.

Better materials

Over time we went looking for better products, ones that allow for structural movement and for expansion and contraction as the climate dictates. Our crews became the waterproofing and decking specialists they are today.

Today

Crank is run by Adam and Rocky, two South County guys who grew up in the trades and kept the Crank name because it had earned its reputation.

Crank means accountability

We’ve seen changes in the economy, in customers, in craftsmanship, and in the regulations and standards that apply to our industry. Adjusting wasn’t always easy, but it was necessary. Any company that’s been in business as long as we have will tell you what it takes: experience, success and quality.

Customers today are savvy and know their options. That keeps us developing our resources to serve the community. And one thing hasn’t changed: what our customers appreciate most is quality, honesty and integrity.
